ATTENTION RESIDENTS--IMPORTANT INFORMATION

With HURRICANE SEASON upon us, we would like to take this time to urge residents to prepare themselves and to take proper action. Make emergency plans, assemble disaster supplies, and listen for local radio and television weather forecasts.

Now is the time to make plans with your family. If we are ordered to evacuate, please LEAVE IMMEDIATELY to avoid being trapped by severe weather and/or heavy traffic. Follow evacuation routes announced by authorities. Tell others where you are going and make sure everyone knows where to meet and who to call in case you are separated.

If you are not required to evacuate, stay indoors during the Hurricane and away from windows. Listen to the radio and television for information and avoid using telephones except for serious emergencies.

Consider how you can help your neighbors who may need special assistance in times of emergency.
Keep important telephone numbers handy.

Attached is some reading material that will help you plan for an emergency. We want you and
your family to be safe. Call the office if there is anything we can do to help.

Please call the office as soon as you can to let us know you are alright after the storm.

Thank You,

Berwick Housing Authority

HURRICANE WARNING

In case of a hurricane warning, please refer to your Louisiana storm Survival guide and make preparations. It is possible that you will be out of electricity for a few days. Being prepared will help you through this and keep you more comfortable.

THINGS TO REMEMBER:

1. Review the check list in the storm survival guide.

2. Gather Supplies.

3. Make sure your home is secure and all outside objects that could cause injury or damage during strong winds are stored inside.

4. If you own your own shed, make sure that it is secure and tied down. You are responsible for it and the contents.

5. Do not use candles or oil lanterns.

6. Tune into radio and TV stations for weather bulletins.

7. Keep your children inside of the home during the storm

8. Consider neighbors who may need your assistance. Disable or Elderly persons may depend on your help.

In case the office is close, we will leave the answering machine on. Remember if there is no electricity, the phones will not work. As soon as the storm is over and it is safe to come out, someone will come out and check the development. Please refrain from calling unless it is an emergency.

We hope everyone follows all evacuation orders and
stays safe.

HURRICANE PREPARATION LIST

Below is a list of things that you can start preparing for now and during a hurricane warning.

1. Everyone needs to clean up their yards. All items that are no longer needed can be thrown away.

2. Please clean off both front and back porches.

3. If you have a shed, make sure that it is secured and tied down.

4. Get all important documents together and keep them in a portable box, so that if you evacuate you can take them with you.

5. Keep a supply of batteries and water on hand.

6. Make sure that you have all your medicines ready.

7. Keep your car fueled.

During a hurricane warning, we ask that you do the following:

1. Please call the office and let us know if you will be evacuting or if you will be staying here.

2. Make sure that all your items in your yard are picked up.

3. Make sure that your garbage can is pulled from the street and secure on your porch.

4. Make sure that all electric items in your house are unplugged in case of an electrical surge.

5. If the need arises, we will turn off the gas at the main meters.

When you return, please be prepared for all aspects. We may be out of utilities for awhile. You may need to clean up.
